YES, YOU HEARD them during the performances of my plays last October at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (with Syalam - headed by Meranao singer Jamir Adiong) - you can catch Bailan this Saturday at 70's Bistro in Quezon City. Bailan will perform a part from my play in progress, So Sanggibo a Ranon na Piyatay o Satiman a Tadman
Okay spoiler: The song, "Tagulaylay sa Kamatayan ng Iyong Maratabat" tells the longing of a non-Muslim spinster remembering the Meranao she met almost 30 years ago in Manila (she was a sex worker then in Manila's university belt after leaving her province in Lanao del Norte.) I am trying to reconstruct a simple story of how two strangers, survivors, will struggle to find love, self-respect, and maratabat in times of war and bloody conflicts spoused by a cruel regime and society and the remembrance of the Tacub Massacre. So Sanggibo a Ranon na Piyatay o Satiman a Tadman is the 3rd play on my trilogy of plays on Lanao del Norte (after Sa Pagdating ng Barbaro in 2007 and Ang Bayot, ang Meranao, at ang Habal-Habal sa Isang Nakababagot na Paghihintay sa Kanto ng Lanao del Norte.) Insha Allah it will pass the deliberation for the 2009 Virgin Labfest at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in June.
Here's the email from Bailan's Bing Veloso:
